TEAM PROFILE   Sally Cummings

I am a life-long Episcopalian and so, like many of you, my experience of Episcopal liturgy and worship is in my blood and feeds my soul. I have grown both incrementally and exponentially in my journey as a Christian and sometimes it feels that I have barely dented the surface.
I have been very involved in Christ Episcopal Church, especially in the last few years, and am completely devoted to its well-being. Members of the congregation have raised me up as someone whom they feel would be well suited for the ministry of the priesthood in the context of our Total Ministry team. I am very drawn to our worship and look forward to serving as a sacramentalist for our congregation.
I also have an interest in the liturgy and the workings of our worship services. I have a passion for the elderly and expect someday to be able to spend more time visiting with members of our church. And I have an ongoing interest in the practical, small details of our church and its life. These are ways in which I expect to serve Christ Church as a member of the Total Ministry team.
I grew up in Rhode Island in the late 60's and early 70's. These were very formative years for me and I loved living out there. One of my all time favorite things to do is to play in the surf in the ocean. I have wonderful memories of my years out east and love the history of that part of the country. I graduated from high school in Hopkins, MN and went to college in Minneapolis. I am a registered nurse. I have practiced both hospital nursing, for ten years in orthopedics, and I have worked with the elderly in nursing homes for the last 20 years. Currently, I am a computer nurse; I gather data and complete assessments on all of our residents. Being detail oriented, this type of work suits me.
When I was 20, I was broadsided by a drunk driver, thrown from my vehicle and suffered a significant head injury. As a result, I have profound deafness in both ears and things are very quiet in my head when I don't have my hearing aides on. I am very, very grateful for both my life and my hearing aides!
I have always been athletically inclined, playing softball for 20+ years and enduring a number of injuries and orthopedic surgeries. Another passion is my lifelong love of downhill skiing. I like speed and racing down the hills is exhilarating to me. It was while I was a member of the National Ski Patrol that Gary and I were introduced. We had mutual friends who felt that we needed to meet each other. Within 36 hours of meeting for the first time, Gary and I both knew we had met our life's soul mate. We have been blessed with two very loved daughters, Amy and Ella, of whom we are very proud.
As a family, we have traveled extensively by car throughout the United States and Canada. Our kids have been to 44 states and all the lower Canadian provinces. We have had some great trips and we all have lots of good memories. Hawaii is one of the five states that I haven't been to and I won't be going until they build a bridge, because I'm sad to say, I have fly-o-phobia.
My Christ Church family is priceless to me. We are all so lucky to have each other.
