Jill Schubert-profile
I
was born and raised in Grand Rapids, baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church, and
confirmed by Bishop McNairy at Christ ÒMemorialÓ Episcopal Church when I was 12
years old. My family came to the
Episcopal Church through the influence of Fr. John McDonald.
I
left Grand Rapids in 1966 and attended the University of Minnesota,
Morris. From there I went to
Connecticut where I married and was active at St. MarkÕs Episcopal Church. Following 7 years in Australia, my
husband and I moved to Colorado where we participated in several ministries at
St. Joseph Episcopal Church for 25 years.
While in Colorado I also obtained my Masters in Social Work degree.
Following my husbandÕs death, I returned to Grand Rapids and am happy to return
to Christ Church.
My
passion has always been to work with children and to work on social justice
issues. As a social worker I have
felt that to be my calling. When I
returned to Grand Rapids, I thought I was ÒretiredÓ but was then presented with
the opportunity to set up GRACE House, the local homeless shelter. During this same time, Christ Church
decided to embark on Total Ministry.
I was interested to be part of the church, eager to work with the youth,
but was quite surprised to be approached to take on the training for a role as
Deacon. I am enjoying the Team and
the opportunity to participate in Christ Church and trust this experience will
be a benefit to me, the church, and the community.
